In my introductory session, Thomas gave me more understanding than I?ve gotten in a long time. But more than that, he gave me some new ways to take care of myself that will help me for the rest of my life. Thank you, Thomas!

I was initially skeptical about speaking with a total stranger about the intense struggles with my disability, but I was feeling so desperate I was willing to try anything. Tom's demeanor was so warm and accepting, and after speaking for just a few moments I felt completely at ease. It was clear that he understood my difficulties even though our disabilities are different. As our conversation continued it turned towards devastating abuse that happened in my childhood. I had never made the connection that those past wounds affected how I cope with my current ones. If Tom hadn't helped me see that, I would not have been able to identify what was holding me back from learning to live with my illness.

I know I have a long way to go before I am able to accept my illness as a part of my life and not something that defines me. The difference now is that I finally have hope that my life will be normal - my normal. I did a lot of crying while we were on the phone, but it was very cleansing. When we hung up I felt empowered. I even put on a ridiculous bracelet that I don't usually wear. When I start feeling badly about where I am in life, I purposefully touch the bracelet and remind myself: this is my situation, this is not who I am. Without Tom's help I would not have been able to make the distinction. I couldn't be more grateful to him for sharing his time, experience, wisdom and knowledge, and kind spirit to help me move forward.

I have chronic fatigue syndrome. I found Thomas's coaching to be very focused and to go straight to the heart of the matter. He works with the roots of an issue, which allows healing to begin. During my introductory session, my experience of my illness, myself, and my life shifted in a major way.

From the closely pressing despair of never having the strength or energy to do what I want or to complete the endless list of things that need to be done, came this quiet and understanding voice, across the Pacific Ocean, to the small cool island where I live. I spoke my despair into his quiet, listening ear. I spoke of the work I do with humanitarian refugees - of how hard it was for them to be exiled from home by war and atrocity and how they struggled to make a new home in a foreign country - learning a new language, accommodating a new culture, learning strange ways; and how compelled I felt to assist them, despite my health issues.

He commented that my attempts to support these traumatized new arrivals demonstrated compassion and understanding and he suggested I think of myself in the same way - as a person exiled from my home place of vibrant health, having arrived bewildered and disoriented into the foreign land of chronic ill health and in need of compassionate understanding and help. That I consider my own needs and support myself as I learned the strange ways of this new country I now occupied.

Such a simple, quietly expressed suggestion. So lucid. So liberating. No suggestion of weakness or giving in, just an acceptance that things are different now. Just a gentle reminder to look around and see where I am, what can be done, and to support and praise my own efforts at adjustment, my own small gains.

Thank you Thomas for this wise and compassionate advice. I felt heard, honoured, assisted, supported in a difficult migration I was struggling to make.

I strongly recommend coaching sessions with Thomas Robinson for all those struggling with adjustment to chronic illness, in finding or regaining the joy and meaning in their lives.
